Why Do Children Need Entertainment?

Numerous school-age children are subjected to a constant message to cut back on leisure and prioritise their studies. Especially during their children's exams, parents are known for meticulously maintaining a solemn atmosphere at home, often even turning off the TV. However, studies have shown how ineffective this action is. Your attention span can be significantly improved by taking even brief breaks from your primary work.

Let's examine the role that entertainment plays in our daily lives in this vein.
Education in Life Skills
Sports and the arts are examples of leisure activities that can enhance your personality and develop your talents. According to media spokesperson Sushmita Pathak Mishra, "Without entertainment, one can simply get stuck in mainstream work and lose out on life."

A remarkable study undertaken by Clemson University in 2014 with funding from the National Science Foundation in the United States discovered that teaching female’s computer programming and dance choreography together aids in the development of their computational thinking skills.

Understanding various cultures, ideas, and individuals
We have the opportunity to learn more about both our own culture and the cultures of others when we go to exotic locations or historical sites. Through watching movies, attending plays and musical performances, listening to music, reading children's books, and taking part in storytelling activities, we learn to appreciate another person's perspective on life and develop a deeper knowledge of a story .

Being close to family
There are occasions when engaging in entertainment fosters relationships between participants. Entrepreneur Arun Kumar made a commitment to abstain from any TV viewing when he was growing up. There were awkward times when my family would watch TV as we ate supper while I would just pay attention to my plate and their faces. After a year and a half, I looked within and saw that I was missing amusement and was yearning for sharing, smiles, and doses of laughter.

Preserving one's physical health
Exercises that keep us physically strong and healthy, such as dancing, athletics, or even trekking, also provide us with a much-needed break from the routine of work. Most kids wouldn't like to engage in rigorous physical activity for its own purpose. Sports like football, salsa, and aerobics also have a fun component. Kids like practising them, so fitness comes as a great side effect.

Overcoming stress
Everyone is aware of how entertainment reduces stress. It has been advocated as a treatment for stress and related problems by doctors and psychologists all over the world. It goes without saying that this is a much healthier alternative to binge-watching TV while munching on bag after bag of potato chips. Even an hour of sensible TV watching, though, can help you clear your head.

While entertainment undoubtedly plays a significant role in our lives, it's crucial that everyone strikes a healthy balance between their leisure time and their work. The question at hand is not whether entertainment is indeed necessary for our existence, but rather how to improve the quality of entertainment and how we may maximise our free time.

Children need to learn how to have fun on their own for a variety of reasons, including helping with their overall development.  When children are able to amuse themselves, according to Anna Falkner, PhD, assistant professor of elementary education at the University of Memphis, "they are practising problem-solving, creativity, and being part of a community."

Playing by oneself can also be a sign that your child is developing autonomous inquiry skills, as in the case of a toddler repeatedly rolling a ball down a ramp. According to Dr. Falkner, "They're developing theories and trying out predictions about how the world functions."

It could require developing new skills, like playing a brand-new puzzle game, or honing ones that already exist, like reading a book again or using art supplies in a novel way. According to Cindy Kim, PhD, a paediatric psychologist from Children's Health of Orange County, independent play encourages independence, creativity, confidence, and patience (CHOC).

Children should be taught to have patience and tolerating situations when getting immediate reward and attention is not always possible, according to the expert.

Additionally, you can mark the box for educating your child for school. You may teach your child to maintain their own calm and interest without the aid of others by giving them time apart from you. According to Dr.  Kim, this fosters emotional stability and patience.

Then there are the advantages for society. Being a part of a community, in the words of Dr. Falkner, "involves learning to be alone, to find someone else to play with, or to figure out how to spend their time independent of an adult. "They will carry it with them throughout their childhood and into adulthood.”
