Darjeeling is one of the tourist places in north east state of west Bengal. Darjeeling is the name of a town as well as a district in the West Bengal state of India. This is situated in North of west Bengal from Siliguri corridors, people visit to Darjeeling by toy train through Darjeeling Himalayan Railways. This rail line is acclaimed as world heritage site. Journey by this train is a wonderful experience; people from different states visit Darjeeling only to ride toy train specially. India's highest Railway platform GHUM is situated in Darjeeling.
By this route enjoys watching the Natural beauty and greenery. The temperature of Darjeeling during summer in Day is 24 degree C and in night 12-degree C. In winter it is too cool it’s also goes to minus degree Celsius also. People and Tourist States that the views of the mountains and plains can be compares to heven from Kurseong. Also, one may visit the Mt. Kanchendzonga, the third highest peak in the world.
Both the town and the district of west Bengal is famous as one of the most important tourist destinations in India. Darjeeling is famous all over the world for the tea gardens grown and the great view of Kanchenjunga second largest mountain range in the world. It is also rich in cultural & natural heritage and the famous toy train that has been declared a world heritage by UNESCO. The district covering about 1150 square km attracts billions of tourists every year for the variety of attractions.
Darjeeling is also known in the name of Queen of the Hills, which is located in the Lesser Himalayas at an altitude of 6610 feet which height varies with time. It is a most attractive tourist destination, noted for its natural beauty, tea gardens and the mountain panorama that it provides. The northern region of the state of Sikkim, shares its borders with Nepal on the West, and Bengal plains in the South Eastern zones. In Darjeeling, those who grow up in the mountains identify themselves according to their ancestry: Nepalese, Bhutanese, Tibetan or Lepchas. The region also contends with people of different religion - Although Hindus represent the majority, there is a strong presence of Tibetan and other religions also.
The 'Queen of Hills', is arguably the most popular tourist destination in northeast India is situated at an altitude of 2144m, with its exquisite scenic beauty, attracts travellers from all over the world of varied interest. Darjeeling and all the tea plantations lie under the shades of this snowy Himalayas. The town is just 78 km from Siliguri and is well connected by Bus and jeep.
By the year of 1857 Darjeeling had a lesser population of 10,000 people. The population increase was due mainly to the recruitment of Nepalese labourers to work in the tea plantations established in the early 1840s by the British government. Even today, the vast majority of people speak Nepali as a first language their official language.
There are various places to visit in Darjeeling which attract many tourists worldwide Darjeeling Zoo, Batasia Loop, Tiger Hill Darjeeling, Mall and Chowrasta, Darjeeling Ropeway, Bengal Natural History Museum, Observatory Hill and Mahakal Temple, Samten Choling, Monastery and Yiga Choeling Monastery. Many tourists plan a tour to Darjeeling in few mutual places, tour planners recommend spending two to three nights in the town. Many tourists like to combine Sikkim with a tour to Darjeeling town. The most common tourist destinations around are Kalimpong, Mirik, Kurseong in the Darjeeling hills and Gangtok, Pelling or North Sikkim area.
