SHRADDHANJALI TO BENGALI’S PRIDE!

Happy Birthday Rabindranath Tagore. This is for you.Right from our childhood we start hearing about you, then find about you in our books, learn about you, we get to portray our little talents on occasions dedicated to you, we get to hear your songs in functions , from our elders, we fall in love with them, even when we are grown up adults we still manage to find stories for us from your gigantic collection, because you were such a great artist, you didn’t leave a single group. You wrote for everyone. Composed for everyone. You are the only person who has all sorts of genres. People do not require to find anybody else’s collection after getting to know yours. Doesn’t matter if we are sad, happy, scared anything, we can reach you to seek pieces of your work related to it all. You never disappoint us. You have got it all. I hate it when it comes to remixes of your songs, I feel like it ruins the whole original composition and somewhere, it is wrong. I’m not sure if you will know Chandler Bing, probably not, it’s very stupid of me to even think that, but I cannot resist myself from saying it in his voice “could you be anymore genius?”.
I mean seriously even if write a novel I’m pretty sure it would fall very less to describe a person like you. We only had one Rabindranath and I can bet we will and we can never have a replacement of yours by anyone. Everyone bows their head when it comes to you. You were one masterpiece and Bengali’s pride, Bengalis are so proud of you, you are loved so much, respected so much, yet we are sorry we could not save your “the most valuable Nobel”, which we should have preserved, protected . “Bangla ke tumi etoh diyecho, tobu bangle tomar oi ekti mulobban jinish rokkhe korteh pareni, khoma koro probhu.” We are sorry.

Happy 159th birthday once again, sir. You are still alive among us like you were physically.
Coming to a little bit of history,  According to the Bengali calendar, this great human being was born on the day in the year 1268. His birthday is celebrated annually and globally in May, on the 25th day of the Bengali month of Boishakh, and is known as “Rabindra Jayanti”. A Brahmo Hindu from Calcutta with ancestral gentry roots in Burdwan District and Jessore, Tagore wrote poetry as an eight-year-old.  At the age of sixteen, he released his first substantial poems. By 1877 he graduated to his first short stories and dramas, published under his real name. As a humanist, universalist, internationalist, and ardent anti-nationalist, he denounced the British Raj and advocated independence from Britain. As an exponent of the Bengal Renaissance, he advanced a vast canon that comprised paintings, sketches and doodles, hundreds of texts, and some two thousand songs; his legacy also endures in the institution he founded, Visva-Bharati.
Tagore modernised Bengali art by spurning rigid classical forms and resisting linguistic strictures. His novels, stories, songs, dance-dramas, and essays spoke to topics political and personal. Gitanjali (Song Offerings), Gora (Fair-Faced) and Ghare-Baire (The Home and the World)  are his best-known works, and his verse, short stories, and novels were acclaimed—or panned—for their lyricism, colloquialism, naturalism, and unnatural contemplation. His compositions were chosen by two nations as national anthems: India's  Jana Gana Mana and Bangladesh's Amar Shonar Bangla. The Sri Lankan national anthem was inspired by his work.
